CarolineLyonsI attended New York University and graduated with a BA in linguistics and psychology.  I got my start in online marketing at Freshpair .com, an e-commerce intimate apparel site.  I started as an intern when I was in college and over three years worked my way up to the associate level.  I had many responsibilities in my time there, including search engine marketing, social media, blogging, public relations, and reputation management, but came to focus on search engine marketing (both organic and paid), the area I found most interesting.

After my time at Freshpair, I began working as a freelance marketer and writer, largely providing consulting for small businesses and white-label services for agencies.  Most recently I worked with New York Life’s online lead generation team, helping to revitalize their paid search strategy.  I especially enjoyed this project because I was able to work out of their office and really collaborate with the team.  One of the reasons I enjoy being a marketing consultant is that I get to meet a wide variety of people and help them to achieve their goals.

I am an active member of the New York tech community, frequently attending industry events such as the NY Tech Meetup, Tech in Motion, and events hosted by local companies.  A lot of smart people are accomplishing great things in New York and it’s amazing to be in the middle of it.

In addition to the previously mentioned groups, I am actively involved in NYTechWomen, a professional organization for women involved in all aspects of technology.  I help plan and host events in addition to providing content and copy for our site, in particular blog posts.  I am also the organizer of New York Women in Search, a group for women in the search marketing industry.  I host small monthly meetups where we discuss industry news and trends.

In my spare time I create and sell crochet items.  Check out my Etsy shop (CrochetByCaroline) or email me about custom orders. I’m  also very chatty on Twitter; be sure to say hello!
